Local Moving

Within a 50 mile radius of Bozeman

Local Move

A local move is charged based on an hourly rate which varies depending on the number of men and number of vehicles required. The time is calculated from the time the crew leaves the warehouse until they return, park the vehicle, and put away any special equipment that was required (if any).

A local move can range from moving one piece within the same room to packing an entire household or office, moving the contents across the county, unpacking the cartons, and putting the contents away into cupboards and cabinets. The movers are happy to perform any moving related task that can be accomplished safely.

Preparation

Before your belongings can be moved safely, the small or fragile items must be packed into cartons. You can have the movers do this for you, or you may choose to do some or all of the packing yourself. If you decide to pack yourself, you should try to use only sturdy cartons with lids so the cartons can be sealed completely. (If needed, Lux Transfer has packing materials for sale at a very reasonable cost.) The cartons should be packed as full as possible without bulging. This will enable the cartons to be stacked without crushing which saves time. Most items which are too large to fit into a medium (3.0 cubic foot) carton can normally be moved locally without being packed into a carton. Generally, it is not necessary to remove clothes from dresser drawers unless the clothes are very heavy or the dresser is very old and fragile.

If you would like the movers to do any packing for you, you must let them know in advance so they can bring the proper materials with them and allot the proper amount of time for your move.

Other things best done before the movers arrival are:

  • Empty and clean out the refrigirator
  • Remove all small items from the tops of any furniture to be moved
  • Have the family up and ready before the movers are scheduled to arrive
  • Move any vehicles that might be blocked by the moving van
  • Set aside any cleaning supplies you'll be using during or shortly after the move
Local Move

The movers of Lux Transfer and Storage are trained professionals and though extremely careful, are very quick and efficient. The more prepared you are before they arrive the less time it will take for your move and the less it will cost.

Notice Required

The notice required varies depending on the time of year and the time of the month. At Lux Transfer and Storage we can usually schedule your move with as little as two or three days notice. Naturally, the more notice you can give the better. Two to four weeks notice usually works well.

The summer months are always the busiest months of the year. The last week of each month is usually busier than the rest of the month. If you can avoid these times, scheduling will usually be easier and less notice will be required.

Estimates

Since the cost of the move is based on the actual amount of time the move takes, you control the cost by deciding how much you would like moved and how prepared you are. The experienced staff at Lux Transfer and Storage can give you a good idea of how long it will take based on a phone interview. Although a phone interview will take less of your time, you may prefer to have our representative give you a free written estimate based on a visual inspection. Of course there is no cost or obligation for either estimate. You should plan on one-half to one full hour for a visual inspection and written estimate.

Cost Cutting Tips

Here are a few things you might choose to do yourself:

  • Take the bedding off the beds and disassemble the bed frames.
  • Stack cartons of similar size in stacks about shoulder high so they can be wheeled out on a cart. The best place to stack them is in the garage without blocking traffic patterns. Take some small items over in the car. Plants and dried flowers are especially time consuming to move.
  • Have a clear understanding of where you would like things placed in your new location.
  • If there is a full freezer, pack the food into small cartons that can be removed from the freezer when it is moved into and out of the building.
  • Disassemble any exercise equipment.
  • Although your children are very special to us, it is less time consuming and less dangerous if you have made arrangements for their care on moving day.

Lux Cannot

Here are a few things that Lux cannot do because of liability issues:

  • Unhook your washer and dryer from their wall connections.
  • Disassemble your water bed.
  • Take any propane tanks that are not certified empty.
  • Take any aerosol products.
  • Take any bleach products.
  • Service grandfather clocks
  • Unhook ice makers
